Regulation 2(1) of the Environmental Regulations for Workplaces, 1987, stipulates that employees working in cold environments should be taken care of if they are exposed to the following scenarios, viz.
- If employees are working in a cold environment, e.g. inside a cold room and they are exposed to low temperatures where the time-weighted average dry-bulb temperature taken over a period of 4 hours of less than 6°C;
- Outside actual temperature is less than 6°C; or
- If the actual dry-bulb temperature at any stage is less than 0°C then additional precautions should be taken.
